INTEX EXCURSION PRO K2 REVIEW
The Excursion Pro k2 inflatable kayak is the highest quality model from Intex, a world leader in low-cost inflatable boats. This model is designed for those who want something reasonably priced but of higher quality than its little brothers, the Challenger and Explorer.
That leap in features makes the Excursion Pro k2 a kayak that can last longer and give better sensations than the other Intex models, which are little more than toys. It also performs very well when fishing, at least compared to other inflatables. Because if fishing is your thing, you’ll end up with a rigid sit-on-top kayak.
If you don’t know the world of inflatable kayaks, its main handicap is that they navigate with limitations. They are very wide (compared to the length). They also have a lot of volume out of the water, and very little inside. On top of that, they bend when people get on them.
All of that means that an inflatable kayak is only suitable for sheltered waters: without wind, currents or waves. Intex’s manual does not recommend using the Excursion Pro k2 inflatable kayak with waves of more than 0.3 m and winds of force 4.
GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE EXCURSION PRO K2
- Built with three-layer material, two layers of PVC vinyl and a central layer of polyester. More resistant and durable than more basic inflatable kayak models.
- Ideal color combination. Red on the outside to be seen, and light on the inside to minimize the effect of the sun. Inflatables are used in summer and dark colors give heat.
- Material that dries faster than others.
- Rear plug that helps to empty it of water when we wash it at the end.
- Like all inflatable kayaks, it is very stable
- Rod holders integrated in the rear.
- Two different sized keels for the stern. One for deep water, and another short keel for shallow places. Don’t buy an inflatable without a keel because it is more sensitive to the wind, and it has a hard time going straight
- Rigid and adjustable pedals in three positions, allow a firm support that improves paddling forward.
- Higher quality bag than in other models, and very spacious that allows you to store the Excursion Pro K2 even if it is not folded perfectly.
- The shape of the bow is better than other inflatables for when there is choppy sea
- Very tight price in kit format, so you would only need vests and a waterproof case to navigate
- Aluminum platform to install accessories
- It can be used for one or two paddlers
- Includes a support for phone or GoPro
- It is a size of 384 cm longer than other double inflatable kayaks, which makes paddling easier and more natural. And both paddlers have space to stretch their legs well.
- Safety valves
- Small lifelines in front and behind.
BAD THINGS ABOUT THE EXCURSION PRO K2
- The hull of the intex k2 excursion inflatable kayak has internal partitions to achieve rigidity, which, if they come off, deform the hull. Other inflatables have a layer on the hull to avoid or minimize it.
- The seats are like my Explorer, very uncomfortable as the backrest is inflatable and you can’t lean on it properly. You can attach others from a sit on top kayak if it happens to you like me that you don’t like them.
- The paddles are not bad in terms of shape, and have drip rings but they are short for such a wide kayak and are of low quality. They easily develop slack
- It is not suitable for very tall or heavy people, it only supports 180 kg of load. Also, if you are very tall, the pedals will force you to keep your knees very bent.
- The inflation pressure, lower than other inflatables, makes it a “soft” kayak and bends more than desired with weight on it.
- Buyers report the poor durability of the material of this kayak

CONCLUSION
The Intex k2 Excursion pro inflatable kayak stands out for its value for money since it is very good and it is sold in kit. It is a step above the basic models, but even so, it is a model with a very fair duration. It is one of the few inflatable kayaks designed for fishermen.
